It seems like we could get a redesigned navigation bar in Android P, that's coming later this year. A navigation bar similar to the one you find on iPhone X.
In a blog post from Google about network security improvements in Android P, there was a screenshot attached that probably showed a little more than the author had intended. The screenshot showed a settings menu for private DNS, but also on the screen was a redesigned navigation bar.
Google has now cropped the image to exclude the navigation bar, but the original image can be seen here:
9to5Google reports that this bar uses swipe gestures and Google is supposedly only testing this feature right now. It's not safe to say it will ship in the final release of Android P. We'll just have to wait and see.
